Quarantine

Quarantine Series is a new normal - an intimate exploration of material, process and compositional consideration. The works are either preexisting paintings repurposed to serve different narratives or new works created with limited resources. It was a time of experimentation and friction, relying on traditional forms of mark making and using carving tools to unpack movement within the works. The works are an intuitive process of chipping away the surface to reveal meaning, image and metaphor. The act of peeling back the layers only to reintroduce them into the composition until form reveals itself. The process is a visceral response to the physicality of the material—an ancestral history or longing for a ‘somewhere’ carved from memory. 'Hello, World!' was the first output / display phrase in programming language. The language became a universal message to when born, the choices that define life are Boolean. The 1s and 0s that are written in one’s essence will determine the capability of a system, the efficiency of a populace and the many stray semicolons that terminate all too soon. Should one choose to change the course of life, all binary must work as one. For should we terminate such information too early; we will have no choice but to return zero.
